This article is for you ladies out there, who don’t have the time for manicure/ who don’t know how to do it; for those of you who don’t like to spend time with it, or for you ladies who are busy and don’t even have the time to go to a nail salon for a professional manicure.
As you know, primmed nails are as important as clean hair and clothes, so here is how you can easily take care of your nails at home and without investing a lot of time/ money during the process.
1. Take care of your cuticles (and nails)!
Moisturise them every time you moisturise your hands.
For example: put an extra amount of hand cream on each cuticle and massage the product until it’s absorbed.
If you want something more efficient, invest in a cuticle cream/ oil or just use castor-oil (it’s one of the best cuticle treatments, it’s organic and cheap).
The best time to do a cuticle massage, is when you watch a movie, it doesn’t feel like work and it’s relaxing…massaging your cuticles also keeps you away from nipping on food ;).
Bonus info: Each time you are in the shower and you are exfoliating your skin, use a little bit of exfoliating product on your hands and nails.
It makes the skin on your hands look younger and corrects the appearance of nails, scrubbing away impurities, polishing their surface and leaving them neater and smoother; cuticles are more supple and easy to push back with a wooden cuticle stick (if you choose to do so).
2. Find a nail shape that suits you and make sure all your nails have the same shape and the same length!
Each time a nail breaks, trim the others in order to match the length of the broken one.
Invest in a good nail file and trim them all at least once each week.
These are, in my opinion, the most important details of having neat hands and nails. If, however, you think you want to go a step further:
3. Invest in a good quality base coat which protects your nails and keeps them healthy!
I love Mavala base coats, but you can find lots and lots of different products, just pick one that suits you!
If you think you would like to put some colour on your nails, now it’s the perfect time!
Important: If you want healthy and good looking nails, apply nail polish only after you’ve applied the base!
4. If you don’t have the dexterity, don’t worry, the secret is to find some nude milky colours!
These shades are the easiest to apply, they look good on everyone, at any moment of the day and are perfect for each occasion.
You don’t even have to apply 2 coats, one is sufficient.
Bonus info: Nail application technique!
Important: If your nail polish is chipping, immediately remove all of the varnish! Chipped nail polish is not stylish, ladies!
5. If you have applied nail polish, ALWAYS use a top coat afterwards!
Why? Because it helps the nail polish last longer and it keeps it from chipping!
My favourite is Essie – Good to Go but, as with base coats, you can find a lot of products and brands, just pick one!
Bonus info: Not sure how long you should wait between coats?
Here it is: you only need 2 minutes between base and colour, two minutes between colour coats (if you choose to apply 2 coats), and then 2 minutes before the top coat goes on.
That’s all you need to wait in between to get a dry enough surface to get the next layer to adhere.
Conclusion
- Find time each week to give your hands and nails minimal TLC!
- Invest in:
- Remember: Neat hands and nails are as important as clean hair and clean clothes!
– a good quality nail file,
– a good cuticle cream,
– a good quality base treatment,
– a good quality top coat.
What do you think about these steps?
Are they easy to follow?
If you think I overlooked something, please let me know! I’m also very curious to know, if you like to take care of your nails yourself, if you prefer going to a salon or if you think manicure is not that important!
This post is awesome, it’s like it’s made for me – sound advice, great information and easy to follow – thank you so much 🙂
I’m happy you like it, Patricia! Hugs!
Thank you for the tips! I hope soon I will do it properly if I have the patience:)

Thank you for the visit, Roxana!
yes I think clean and neat nails tell their story about a person! When a person goes around with chipped nail polish or uneven nails it looks horrible!!
