My Top 5 Fragrances for Spring/Summer

My top 5 fragrances for Spring/Summer

Fragrance houses have gone all out this year to create some extraordinary scents to accompany us during this Spring and Summer. When lovely Georgia asked me to line up my five favourites for this time of the year, the fragrance addict in me had a hard time choosing just five. Here are the ones that made it.

Marc Jacobs – Daisy Sorbet

Marc Jacobs - Daisy Sorbet
Daisy is a true Marc Jacobs classic that’s coveted all over the world and each year, Marc spoils us with a limited edition of Daisy and her big sister, Daisy Eau So Fresh. This year, the theme is Sorbet and that means a fresh and sweet scent that’s very summer appropriate.

Top notes are pink grapefruit, pear and passion fruit whereafter the fragrance evolves into a heart of wisteria, jasmine and lily of the valley on a base of violet wood, cedar and musk. The fruits in the top don’t overtake the flowery heart so to me, it’s a very subtle mix of pink freshness that I love to wear to work or into the city on a busy day.

Elie Saab – Le Parfum Resort Collection

Elie Saab - Le Parfum Resort Collection
The first limited edition fragrance of designer house Elie Saab is a real pleasure for all your senses. That stunning blue bottle, inspired by the Amalfi coast, houses a very exotic fragrance. Master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, who was also the nose of the original Le Parfum, did an excellent job.

He mixed fig, orange blossom, jasmin and frangipani which makes a true summer scent. I find it very exotic without being too overpowering or heavy. There are some elements that are very recognizable but as a whole, this fragrance feels refreshingly new. It makes me feel like I’m on an Italian beach and that’s not a bad feeling at all.

Acqua di Parma – Acqua Nobile Rosa

Acqua di Parma - Acqua Nobile Rosa
Acqua di Parma is a fragrance brand founded by a tailor and with Italian roots, they do beautiful colognes. My favourite one so far was Rosa Nobile and now, they’ve also made an eau de toilette of that fragrance. It has the same beautiful scent but it’s a bit airier and lighter, more like a veil of scent.

In the top, there’s Italian bergamot, mandarin and blackcurrant followed by a heart of pepper, Damascus rose, freesia and Centifolia rose on a base of ambergris and musk. It’s a velvety fragrance that really lasts throughout the day. I find it to be very sensual and warm without being overwhelming, perfect for a sunny day.

Jo Malone – Osmanthus Blossom

Jo Malone - Osmanthus Blossom
I’m still hanging on to this limited edition from two years ago but luckily for me (and for you!) they’ve released it again as a part of this year’s limited edition Blue Skies & Blossoms collection. Back then, it was my first encounter with Jo Malone and it still has a special place in my heart.

It’s a very green and flowery scent, opening with honey and peach on a base of cashmere wood, enriched with petitgrain and osmanthus of course. Very unique and wether you’re into Jo Malone or you’ve never heard of the brand, you need to smell this, end of story.

Elizabeth & James – Nirvana White

The brains behind fashion brand Elizabeth & James are socialite twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. In 2013 they launched their fragrance, Nirvana, in a Black and in a White edition. The black one turned into one of my favourite scents for Winter but this white edition is your companion for a warm, casual day out and about.

It’s a musky, floral fragrance composed of peony, lily of the valley and musk. Simple, sexy and modern, just like the bottle. What you see is what you get, it’s very easygoing but it will give you an edge during the day. My tip is to also invest in the rollerball version to apply to your pulse points as that will make the fragrance last longer.
