PMD – Personal Microderm: At Home Microdermabrasion

The microdermabrasion is my favorite cosmetic procedure! I first tried it back in 2007 and the results on my skin were excellent. Therefore, I was very excited when I heard of the PMD Personal Microderm.

What is Microdermabrasion?

It is a deeper peeling-method (than the one obtained with specific cosmetics) performed with a special device that combines gentle, crystal-based abrasion with suction in order to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.

The purpose of this procedure is to exfoliate and act on the superficial problems of the epidermis, like: fine lines, pigmentation spots, acne marks.

What is the personal microdermabrasion device (PMD)?

This apparatus is a close replica of the professional microdermabrasion devices that we see only in cosmetic salons and can be used at home by each and every one of us.

The aluminum oxide crystals -used on the rotating disks of the PMD- together with the suction action achieve optimal exfoliation of the skin.

The device removes dead cells from the surface and reveals a bright, clean and healthy epidermis which is capable to absorb cosmetic products more efficiently.

The system:

  1. Includes 3 types of exfoliating discs for a controlled intensity;
  2. Is suitable for any skin type and any carnation;
  3. Cleans pores;
  4. Smoothes complexion;
  5. Reduces imperfections;
  6. Softens fine lines.

Here is my opinion

I used the device once a week or every two weeks, depending on my mood and my skin needs.

I didn’t expect for the PMD to be so close (in terms of quality) to a professional device from a beauty salon.

It deeply cleanses my pores and the T-zone area where I have problems with blackheads; it removes dead cells perfectly.

After the treatment, the epidermis is a bit sensitized (it’s absolutely normal) but everything turns back to normal the next day.

The effects are evident from the first use: my complexion is clean and smooth, bright, my fine lines are less distinct (However I don’t have deep wrinkles so I don’t know if/ how the device works on wrinkled skin) and I even saw improvement on my dark spot area.

I can see a general rejuvenating effect on the level of the skin and the pores are visibly reduced.

Before PMD-treatment I clean my complexion with a facial soap or micellar water and apply a mask afterwards; the last step is a self-massage with argan oil.

The next day, my skin looks absolutely fabulous…exactly how it looks after a professional facial.

The device is designed for all skin types, but in my opinion people with sensitive complexion should be careful, because, if not used properly, the PMD can irritate or scratch the skin … it happened to me under the eye area, but it’s totally my fault because I insisted too much and anyway it is not advisable to use the device in that area.

The PMD can be used on the face and body (I have not tried it there yet) and the package contains 3 pairs of disks, two pairs for a normal treatment and one pair for a more gentle treatment (a pair consists of a small disc suited for the complexion and a bigger disc suited for the skin on the body); the price is $181.
